Neely Dermatology offers the following surgical dermatology treatments:
-
Skin Biopsies: During a skin exam, lesions or abnormal growths may be found, which require further examination by a pathologist to determine the presence of skin cancer.
-
Excisions: Following a pathologist review of tissue removed during a biopsy, an excision may be necessary if skin cancer is present. Excisions are done in the office under local anesthesia to numb the immediate area for the procedure. Generally, a few sutures are necessary for up to 10 days, depending on the location.
-
Mohs Surgery: Mohs surgery is performed for specific skin cancers. As with excisions, the area is numbed with a local anesthetic and a small area of cancerous tissue is removed. The patient remains in the office while the tissue is examined under a microscope to ensure all of the skin cancer has been removed. This process may be repeated several times during the same visit. Currently, Neely Dermatology does not offer this treatment in their office, however we will refer the patient to a well respected and qualified Mohs Surgeon in the area
